    WING BEATS
In order to attain their speed of from
6 to 10 miles an hour, the common
house fly, the worker bee and the
wasp beat their wings 330, 190 and
    190 times per second respectively.
The fly is approximately 1/280th of a
    mans height. Allowing for the
    insects light construction, 1/200th
would be nearer. To fly by his own
    strength man would, therefore, have
to beat a pair of wings about 60,000
    times per second.
